Mike Mihalas, LCSW offers individual psychotherapy to adults and teens. He is focused on promoting mental wellness and treating the conditions that contribute to ones present day problems and dissatisfaction. Mike Mihalas has been a practicing therapist since 2011 and received his graduate degree from the University of Southern California's school of social work. He has been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and completed an additional two years of supervised training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center. Areas of clinical interest include: depression, anxiety, personality disorders, obsessions, compulsions, phobias, sexual problems, relationships, creative blocks in art or writing, launching issues with young adults, grief, trauma, feeling stuck, anger management, and difficulties finding joy or sense purpose in work or life.
Together we will focus on increasing self understanding, managing upsetting or difficult thoughts and emotions, and exploring what is observable on a surface level as well as what may be happening unconsciously that perpetuates unwanted issues. This approach to therapy is helpful for individuals looking to develop a deeper sense of oneself or for those who have had therapy before and are looking for something more.
I often help people with the following goals: symptom relief, improved insight, greater personal agency, a strong and cohesive sense of self, higher self-esteem, recognizing and handling emotions, freedom to feel pleasure and serenity, and a capacity for love, work, and mature dependence.
You can expect to speak freely without being told what to do or be given advice. Sessions are 45 minutes long and you will determine the pace and depth of our conversation. My therapy dog, Mia, is present for evening sessions. Please visit the resources section for more information about my approach and frequently asked questions.
